25-30g Banisteriopsis caapi (Ourinhos) Yellow Vine: This vine is a key component in traditional Ayahuasca recipes and acts as an MAO inhibitor, activating the effect of DMT in the Chacruna plant. "Ourinhos" is known as a particularly potent variety.
25-30g Psychotria Viridis (Chacruna): This plant contains DMT, a psychoactive substance, activated by the MAO inhibitor in the Banisteriopsis caapi vine.
1 tbsp white or apple vinegar: It's important not to use lemon juice!
2-3L Filtered Water: For optimal results, use filtered water, but tap water is also acceptable.
2 Stainless Steel or PYREX Ceramic Pots: Avoid using pots made of aluminum or Teflon.
Preparation of Traditional Ayahuasca
Preparing the Ingredients
1. Crush the Banisteriopsis caapi by placing it in a kitchen towel and pounding it with a mortar or a similarly heavy object until it breaks into smaller pieces.
Preparing the Ayahuasca Brew
2. In a large pot, add Chacruna, crushed Banisteriopsis caapi, a spoonful of vinegar, and 2-3 liters of water.
3. Let the mixture simmer gently on low heat for 2-3 hours, making sure it does not boil vigorously. Monitor the process to prevent burning.
Filtration
4. Filter the brew through a clean cloth (such as an old T-shirt) into a second pot. Repeat this step multiple times until the liquid is clear. Tip: To ease the process, stretch the cloth over the pot using tape.
Repetition
5. Repeat steps 2-4 three times to increase the concentration of the brew.
Final Product
6. Combine all the liquids and reduce them slowly until you have a drinkable amount. A recommended serving ranges from a shot glass to a cup.
Consumption
Drink the concentrate on an empty stomach. If the taste is too intense, you can hold your nose to mitigate it. For better tolerance, the liquid can also be filtered through a coffee filter.
